Cicada is a literary journal with a focus on writing that is generative, nuanced, experimental, and inclusive. We encourage submissions from anyone, anywhere, and are especially drawn to transnational perspectives, traditionally marginalized voices, and the global narrative.

Karen is a writer, editor, and journalist from Hong Kong. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Foreign Policy, The Offing, The Shanghai Literary Review, and elsewhere. She is the author of The Impossible City (2022).

Nonfiction Editor
Brady is a freelance writer and editor. His work covers contemporary visual culture, world news from East and Southeast Asia, as well as tech.
Jacqueline Leung
Translations Editor
Jacqueline is a writer and a translator of contemporary Chinese literature. She is Asymptote’s Hong Kong editor-at-large. Her work has appeared in ArtAsiaPacific, the Asian Review of Books, Artomity, and Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine.
Xiao Yue Shan
Poetry Editor
Xiao Yue Shan is a poet and editor born in China and living in Tokyo, Japan. Her chapbook, How Often I Have Chosen Love, was published in the spring of 2019. She also works with Spittoon Literary Magazine, Tokyo Poetry Journal, and Asymptote. shellyshan.com.
